The School was opened in 2000 as part of a government initiative to train more doctors in Britain. Originally linked with Leicester Medical School, Warwick has enjoyed rapid growth and in 2007 it was granted independent degree-awarding status by the Privy Council on the recommendation of the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom. Warwick Medical School is one of only two solely graduate-entry school in the UK.
